Powertrain

Most Malibu models are motivated by a turbocharged 1.5-liter four-cylinder engine that generates 160 horsepower and 184 pound-feet of torque. A continuously-variable automatic transmission sends power to the front wheels, and EPA-estimated fuel economy ratings reach 29 mpg city, 36 mpg highway, and 32 mpg combined.

Malibu Premier models come equipped with a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder powerplant that boosts output to 250 horsepower and 260 pound-feet of torque. It's paired with a nine-speed automatic transmission.

Malibu Hybrid models are powered by a 1.8-liter four-cylinder engine matched with an electric motor that boosts both torque and fuel efficiency. The hybrid system produces a combined 182 horsepower and 277 pound-feet of torque and achieves EPA-estimated fuel economy ratings of 49 mpg city, 43 mpg highway, and 46 mpg combined

Trims and Features 

The Malibu comes in various configurations to meet every need and want:

  • L Trim: The base L trim kicks things off with standard features like keyless entry and ignition, cruise control, steering wheel controls, a rearview camera, and an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto smartphone integration.
  • LS Trim: The LS tier adds 16-inch alloy wheels, the Chevy Teen Driver system, a compass, and a 4G LTE Wi-Fi hotspot.
  • RS Trim: The RS trims features several sporty style upgrades like dual exhaust tips, black 18-inch wheels, a spoiler, blacked-out exterior trim elements, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, and an eight-way power-adjustable driver's seat with lumbar support.
  • LT Trim: The LT trim offers a great mix of amenities and value with features such as 17-inch wheels, LED daytime running lights, LED taillights, heated side mirrors, heated front seats, dual-zone automatic climate control, and satellite radio.
  • Hybrid: The Malibu Hybrid is equipped like the LT and adds an 8-inch color information display in place of the standard trip computer.
  • Premier: At the top of the range, the Premier tier adds to the LT's feature set with a more powerful engine, remote start, 18-inch wheels, ventilated seats, navigation, premium nine-speaker Bose audio, ambient interior lighting, a wireless charging pad, and a 120-volt house-hold style power outlet.

Three advanced driver-assistance packages are available:

  • Driver Confidence: Lane Change Alert with Side Blind Zone Alert, Rear Cross Traffic Alert, and Rear Park Assist. 
  • Driver Confidence II: Intellibeam automatic headlights, Forward Collision Alert, and Lane Keeping Assist.
  • Driver Confidence III: Adaptive Cruise Control-Advanced, Forward Automatic Braking, and Automatic Parking Assist.
